Prevention is a tricky business, because it’s hard to count things that don’t happen. It can be difficult to imagine or measure the impact of a non-event. But when we talk about suicide, a non-event means something very real. A suicide that doesn’t happen won’t be quantified in statistics, but it counts more than anyone can imagine.
No one should suffer in silence and no one should have to experience the devastation of losing a loved one to suicide. That’s why I am racing to raise awareness for suicide prevention. I want people to know that it’s okay to be “not okay”, and it’s okay to seek help.
By racing for SpeakUp ReachOut, I aim to reduce the stigma that surrounds mental health and share stories of hope and survival. Look for me at the Louisville Trail Half Marathon (May 5th, 2013), the Beaver Creek Trail Half (August 10th, 2013), and a fall marathon – tentatively the Boulder Backroads Marathon (Sept 2013). I will add and update races as I register. Please contribute whatever you can to help save lives in Eagle County!

I am currently registered for the Louisville Trail Half (May 5) and the La Sportiva Summer Solstice 10k Trail Run (June 22).
